The garden is as neglected as this blog at the moment. It seems every year I get swamped by the post-summer holiday demands of February. Jobs around the place are half complete and all through the house there are closed doors so the disarray doesn't wear me down.
The garden though has some purposeful neglect going on. This year we had a great crop of brown and red onions, but a few weren't ready to pick so were left in the garden bed. A few hot, dry days was all it took to see them bolt from almost ready to sprouting. So we let them go with a plan to collect the seeds to grow tiny tendrils of seedlings to plant later in the year. Soon they will stop being gorgeous starburst-y spheres and I'll have to upturn them into paper bags but at the moment I am loving the showy pom pom flowers at the end of incredibly straight and tall stems.
If only other forgotten areas here at #55 would transform into something lovely and useful. It is unlikely, so I imagine at some point I will need to open those doors and face the neglect that awaits.

February is such a weird month. It feels like a time of blurred endings & beginnings. Too much flux in the world and the mind at this time of year. Bring on the cooler, stiller, quieter month of March.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree - March, then April and May - my favourite times of the year.
DeleteOh, you should see our study - just ridiculous! I need more storage in there, and a different system for my school stuff. I'm such a hoarder! We have the closed door thing happening too, lol!
ReplyDeleteLoving your onion flowers, though! I didn't realise they blossomed like that.:)
Storage systems - the stuff of dreams! We are in dire need of a rethink of board games and puzzles and hama beads and all the tools of being a kids.

I love that forgotten vegetables will seed and the grow themselves. I've also been run off my feet, and blogging only sporadically. I think it's the time of year.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm not even sure where February went, let alone what I did with it !?!
Have a great weekend x
Such a great comment - perfectly sums up my February.

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love these shots! Our garden is so wet and completely soggy, and the bush turkeys have worked out that they can fly over the fence.... hmmm. Enjoy xx
I wish I'd left some of my onions in to go to seed. So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love these shots! Hope Autumn brings steadier days your way. Loving your 52 portraits too. x
